Gone But Never Forgotten

It has taken quite a long time to put this together. The pain of losing a loved one is overwhelming. We know that we can’t save them all, but it doesn’t lessen the pain. There is an empty space in our hearts. They may have only been here for a short time, but they were a big part of our lives. We lost two members of our herd this year. Levi in April and Fancy in August.

10252046_680096998693730_5707135236034657984_nLevi was found as a stray and brought to Riverside shelter. He was an untouchable stallion of unknown age, scheduled to be PTS when his stray hold was up because he was deemed dangerous. We took him in, gave him a name, a chance, and a home. Levi passed away April 26, 2014, less than 24 hours after his gelding surgery. We never got to meet Levi. He went straight to a trainer who had high hopes for him. His passing is a reminder that there is no such thing as a “routine” procedure. To look at Levi’s album click here

Fancy was a 16 year old Arabian mare whose owner passed away. She had several life threatening conditions, but was doing a wonderfully during the five weeks she spent with us. Her open sores were healing, her pressure sores were completely gone, she shed out her Cushing’s coat, and she was moving around a lot more comfortably. Unfortunately, she passed away August 19, 2014 due to colic caused by intestinal stones. To look at Fancy’s album click here

Rest easy, dear friends. You are forever loved and missed.
